ENGLAND MASTERS FEEDER SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR ITALIAN SHOWDOWN
Angling Trust England Masters Feeder team manager Nigel Franks has named his squad for the final World Championships of 2023.
The 10-man squad heading over to Italy at the end of November will consist of Andy Moss, Darren Cox, Richard Vaughan, Simon Fry, and 2022 silver-medallist Tommy Pickering, who has been named as captain.
Joining the team in the over-55s event will be Steve Welford who was part of Nigel’s back-room staff in Spain in 2022, and Dave Berry, who made his England debut at the European Feeder Cup event at Barston Lakes last week.
Dave has a wealth of experience and has earned team gold and silver at National level and is one of the few elite anglers who has qualified for six Feedermaster finals in the last seven years – finishing in second place in 2021 – along with two Golden Rod finals.
As in Spain 2022, Manager Nigel Franks will be supported by Assistant Managers Mark Morris and Rob Brennan.
“It’s an incredible team packed with experience with a solid support crew behind them too,” said Nigel. “With the competition being rearranged from South Africa to Italy last month it hasn’t given us as much time to learn about the venue, but the team will be fully focussed on winning.”
The Masters Feeder World Champs was switched from South Africa to Italy by World governing body FIPS-ed following concerns over costs to reach the Nyl Dam venue by several Nations. The new venue is a navigable canal near Migliarino in the Province of Ferrara, Italy, and is a 40m wide waterway with bream, skimmers, catfish, and carp likely to be the target species.
Nigel added: “The England Masters Feeder Team would like to thank South Africa for the preparation work carried out to hold this event and look forward to fishing the Nye Dam at an appropriate time in the future. We would also like to extend our thanks to Italy on coming forward at late notice to host the event in 2023.”
The high-profile, experienced squad are currently seeking a long-term sponsorship deal but are also running a Facebook lotto-based raffle to raise funds. More info on their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/100082745649142/
